Where To Get Cheap Ammo

You should have a well stocked supply of ammunition. Ammo at your local gun shop can be expensive, however. Here is a website that has bulk quantities of ammo for cheap: www.surplusammo.com

You should have 1,000 rounds minimum for each caliber you really plan to use in a pinch. For budget and practical reasons, it makes sense to have common calibers. More on guns later, this post is all about where to get cheap ammo.

Water Filters

Its good to store lots of water for an emergency. But an extended emergency can drain even a large supply. That is why its good to have a water filter if you can afford it. The little hand-pump water filter you bring on camping and hikes will probably break within a month of constant use. You need a gravity-based water filter with no moving parts to break that can really filter a lot of water for your family. This Berkey filter is not cheap (starts at $220) but it will be more useful than your XBox, I can guarantee that. It is a gravity filter, you simply pour water in the top cannister and it filters down below. Check it out at www.berkeyfilters.com

A Good Stove

How will you cook food in an emergency situation? Your gas or electric stove in the house will be useless when the power and gas get cut off. A propane barbecue is good for grilling meat and can work for a short-term disaster, but it is an inefficient way to heat a pot of water or cook something in a frying pan. In my opinion a propane 2-burner stove is the best. Propane is cheap and plentiful and can be stored in small or large cannisters. This is a two-burner stove from costco.com for only $130. Then you have to store enough propane cannisters and matches.
